ADHD and Neurodivergence Therapy in Derby and Online
Therapy that makes room for the whole of your experience
I work with adults who identify as neurodivergent, including people with ADHD or autism and those who are still making sense of these experiences.
For some people, ADHD or autism has been recognised early. For others, understanding comes much later, sometimes after years of explaining their difficulties through anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship problems or a sense of personal failure.
What might bring you to therapy
There is no single neurodivergent experience. You may want space to explore:
- Masking and exhaustion: the effort involved in monitoring yourself, fitting in or appearing to cope.
- Overwhelm and burnout: feeling emotionally, physically or mentally depleted by demands that have become too much.
- Rejection sensitivity and shame: powerful responses to criticism, disapproval or feeling that you have got something wrong.
- Relationships and boundaries: feeling misunderstood, struggling to express what you need or repeatedly becoming overwhelmed in relationships.
- Late recognition: making sense of the relief, grief, anger or uncertainty that can follow recognising ADHD or autism later in life.
How I work with neurodivergence
My approach is relational and developmental. We can explore your experience of ADHD or autism within the wider context of your life, including how other people have responded to you, what you came to expect of yourself and the ways you learned to cope or stay connected.
I am interested in what belongs to neurodivergence and what may have developed through experiences of criticism, misunderstanding or pressure to adapt. These experiences can become closely intertwined. Therapy gives us room to understand them without reducing everything to a diagnosis.
We can talk openly about what helps you feel comfortable in therapy, including pace, communication and sensory needs. Neurodivergence can also affect closeness, communication and what happens between people, which connects with my work around relationships and attachment.
Please note: I offer psychotherapy for adults. I do not provide diagnostic assessments for ADHD or autism.
Would you like to talk about working together?
I offer in-person psychotherapy in Mickleover, Derby, close to Littleover, and online therapy across the UK. A free initial phone consultation gives you the opportunity to tell me a little about what has brought you to therapy, ask questions and get some sense of whether I might be the right therapist for you.
